According to the invention, a future time curve (25) of a non-energy requirement (N), resulting from a respective parking phase of the motor vehicle (12), is predicted, and the charge state (SOC) of the energy store (13) is kept below a threshold (21) by means of the charging device (11) regardless of the availability of a charge output of the energy source (15) if the predicted time curve (25) of the non-energy requirement (N) satisfies a specified rest criterion (22) for a specified subsequent time interval (23).
