The filling and closing member (4) is connected to a filling material supply and a closing cover supply and comprises at least one filling valve (4.1) and at least one mating holder (5) arranged in the vertical direction above the containers (2) to be filled and to be closed. The carrier element (3) and the mating holder (5) are designed to perform a controlled movement relative to each other oriented in the direction of a vertical axis (VA) of the handling station (S), specifically in such a way that the carrier element (3) and the mating holder (5) assume at least one filling position (PF) and at least one closing position (PV) on account of the controlled relative movement, starting from an initial position (P0) relative to each other. The device (1) is set up both to fill and to close the containers (2) at the at least one handling station (S).
