[origin: WO2020088871A1] The invention concerns a method for controlling a motor vehicle internal combustion engine equipped with a manual gearbox, a sensor for rotation speed of the internal combustion engine, a sensor for depression of the accelerator pedal and a sensor for depression of the clutch pedal, comprising the following steps: determining the change of gear by the driver, by determining whether all the conditions of a first set of conditions are satisfied, the first set of conditions comprising the determination that the depression of the clutch pedal is complete and that there is no depression of the accelerator pedal, and, when such is the case, determining the engaged gear and the gear immediately higher than the engaged gear, then determining a rotation speed setpoint depending on the gear immediately higher than the engaged gear and the speed of the vehicle, controlling the speed of rotation of the internal combustion engine so that it is maintained at the rotation speed setpoint after having allowed it to converge to the setpoint by using the inertia of the motor, and determining whether at least one condition of a second set of conditions is satisfied, the second set of conditions comprising the determination that the time passed since the start of the second step is greater than a predetermined threshold and that the clutch pedal has been released and, if such is the case, interrupting the maintaining of the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine at the rotation speed setpoint.
