Abstract (en)

An IPv6 address configuration method and a routing device are provided. The method is applied to a routing device supporting an IPv6 protocol stack. The method includes: A routing device generates a router advertisement packet, where the router advertisement packet includes first information and second information, the first information is used to indicate a terminal device to obtain an IPv6 address in a DHCPv6 manner, and the second information is used by the terminal device to obtain an IPv6 address in an IPv6 stateless autoconfiguration manner; and the routing device sends the router advertisement packet to the terminal device. Because the RA packet sent by the routing device may include the information required by an IPv6 address configuration manner supporting the DHCPv6 and an IPv6 address configuration manner supporting the IPv6 stateless autoconfiguration, the routing device can be compatible with different types of terminal devices, so that all types of terminal devices can use IPv6 addresses to access the internet.
