[origin: WO2020208159A1] The invention relates to a switching device for bidirectional operation, comprising a first fixed contact, a second fixed contact and a contact bridge. According to the invention, a first magnetic blow field and a second magnetic blow field are oppositely oriented so that the magnetic field lines of the first blow field run directly opposite to the magnetic field lines of the second magnetic field; the first fixed contact has a first portion that is disposed inside the first blow field and that comprises a first contact face, and has a second portion disposed inside the second blow field; and the second fixed contact has a first portion that is disposed inside the second blow field and that comprises a second contact face, and has a second portion disposed inside the first blow field, wherein the first fixed contact, the second fixed contact and the contact bridge are designed and are disposed with respect to the two blow fields such that a root of a first switching arc flashes over from the contact bridge to the second portion of the fixed contact to which the first switching arc is initially driven, so that a second switching arc forming there extinguishes, and the first switching arc is subsequently blown between the two fixed contacts into an arc quenching device due to the effect of the blow field.
