According to the invention, the optical system (1) is adapted to an individual user, a first target value for adaptation of a display control unit (8) of the display unit (3) for controlling the first display (4) being determined, a current viewing direction of the first eye (6) being determined by the gaze-tracking glasses (2), a virtual object (16) being generated and, taking account of the first target value, the virtual object (16) being displayed in the first display (4) at a position in the determined viewing direction of the first eye (6).
