The method according to the invention furthermore requires a server (70), which is designed for communication with the at least one autonomous vehicle (10) and the at least one service station (80, 90). In the method according to the invention, information on a degree of contamination of the vehicle (10) is first obtained. Based on the information on the degree of contamination of the vehicle (10), a cleaning procedure to be performed on the vehicle (10) is further determined. In the method according to the invention, the vehicle (10) furthermore autonomously travels to a selected service station (80, 90) and the cleaning is performed at the selected service station (80, 90).
