[origin: WO2020148139A1] An elevator system having an elevator car 24 arranged in a shaft is disclosed, said elevator car 24 being connected to a counterweight 26. The connection between the elevator car and the counterweight comprises a first suspension, which has a first suspension-means portion. The connection between the elevator car and the counterweight furthermore comprises a second suspension, which has a second suspension-means portion. A drive unit 50' is configured to move the elevator car by means of the first suspension. Furthermore, a further elevator car 24' is arranged in the shaft, said elevator car 24' being movable independently of the elevator car by means of a second drive unit 50".
