The invention relates to a system and method for sorting packaged products (1), provided with image capture means (4) in the visible spectrum and hyperspectral image capture means (5) in the infrared spectrum, which capture images on a line (3) illuminated by illumination means (7) in the visible spectrum and hyperspectral illumination means (6) in the infrared spectrum, further comprising first image processing means (12) configured to compare the spectral signature (26) of the hyperspectral images with reference patterns (27) and colour them with pre-established tones (28) and second processing means (13) configured to analyse a control area (36) of the images, in order to sort them and send sorting instructions to actuation means (14) of sorting means (9).
