[origin: WO2020156900A1] The invention relates to a carbonator (10) for carbonating a drinking liquid (2), comprising a reaction container (12) for spatially separately accommodating an activating liquid (6) and a carbonating agent (4) that is chemically active and together with the activating liquid (6) forms CO2 gas (8). The reaction container (12) has a gas outlet opening (14), joining means for combining the activating liquid (6) and of the carbonating agent (4) in order to trigger the chemical reaction between the activating liquid (6) and the carbonating agent (4), and having connecting means (80) arranged at the gas outlet opening (14) for connecting a drinking liquid container which has a drinking liquid container (100) containing a drinking liquid (2) to be carbonated, a gas outlet valve (16) being arranged in the gas outlet opening (14).
