[origin: WO2020160859A1] The invention relates to a gas piston (11) for a weapon (5), which is characterised by a spring (12) introduced in the gas piston (11) and a plunger (13), which engages on one end (12.1) of the spring (12), wherein the spring (12) is supported by the other end (12.2) at the end (11.2) of the gas piston (11) opposite the plunger (13). This gas piston (11) can be a component of a gas piston assembly (10) having a counter piston (2), which is for use in a weapon (5). The gas piston (11) or the plunger (13) is supported e.g. on the weapon housing (4). With the special construction of the gas piston (11) or the gas piston assembly (10) formed with same, the gas piston (11) can be transferred from a working position into a resting position within a weapon housing (4) of the weapon (5). Closure parts, which are carried by the closing spring device, can now quickly move forward unhindered in the closure direction.
