Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2581396A] A toggle type assembly for a cupboard door etc. with an arm assembly and a hinge cup 12 anchorable in use to a planar face of second member. A linearly reciprocable damping device 16 produces a damped resistive force, and a mechanism e.g. camming surface 26 converts hinging movement of the hinge assembly into actuation of the damping device, with the damping device located in a void space in the second member, e.g. within a hole in the cupboard outside of the hinge cup. The axis of linear reciprocation of the damping device, e.g. the axis of movement of the piston etc. lies at an acute angle with respect to the planar face of the second member. The angle may be variable and may be parallel to the planar face. There may be two damping devices located in the void either side of the hinge cup. There may be an adjustment mechanism for the damping device. Many variations of converting the pivotal movement of the hinge into linear motion of the damping device are disclosed, for example using a snail cam (Figures 6e/f).
