Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2020182355A1] A description is given of a method and an apparatus for applying self-adhesive labels to containers. Accordingly, a carrier strip (7) comprising the labels (2) is conveyed along an elongate dispensing member (6) to a detachment edge (8), where the labels are detached from the carrier strip. Furthermore, in the region of the detachment edge, the containers (3) are transported in a take-up direction (4a), so that the upper faces (3a) of the containers take up the labels as they are detached. Since the carrier strip and the labels are conveyed into a free end region (6a) of the elongate dispensing member (6) counter to the take-up direction and, following deflection (9) in said free end region, are carried along in the take-up direction to the detachment edge, the labelling unit (5) can be positioned more flexibly and in a space-saving manner in the exit region (24) of labelling machines.
