[origin: WO2020188174A1] The invention relates to a method for controlling the speed of a motor vehicle, or host vehicle, which uses an adaptive cruise-control function (ACC function), the method comprising the steps of: - maintaining (30) the speed of the host vehicle at a set speed and keeping the vehicle at a distance from a vehicle in front, or target vehicle, which distance is greater than a set distance; - decreasing (32) the speed of the host vehicle until it stops if required due to the target vehicle slowing down - keeping (34) the vehicle in a stationary state; - when a restart requires action from the driver, and if the distance between the host vehicle and the target vehicle is greater than a threshold value, inhibiting (36) the transmission of a message indicating that the ACC function is suspended for a predetermined duration; - increasing (38) the speed of the host vehicle up to the set speed.
