[origin: CA3186301A1] The invention relates to a method for producing a circumferential packaging for a paper roll, the paper roll having a wound paper web and two opposing end faces and a circumferential surface that connected the end faces to each other, the method comprising the following steps: applying a protective material in liquid form to an end section of the paper web by means of at least one application unit, the protective material being applied to one of two sides of the end section of the paper web, winding up the end section of the paper web, so that the end section forms at least one outer layer of the paper roll, and curing the protective material, resulting in a protective layer that covers the circumferential surface.
