According to the invention, the cutting unit (10) comprises at least one caterpillar (14) having at least one cutting tool (13); on one of the caterpillars (14), at least one tool (13) is provided; at least one cutting means (15) is disposed in the tool (13), by which cutting means the plastic product (7) can be severed; and during the cutting process, the cutting means (15) disposed within the tool (13) can be rotated around the plastic product (7) to be severed. The invention also relates to a corresponding method.
