Die Umreifung wird durch wenigstens ein vorkonfektioniertes geschlossenes Umreifungsband (26) gebildet, dessen Länge in etwa mit einem Gesamtumfang (28) der in einer Diagonalanordnung (18) befindlichen Artikelzusammenstellung (10) korrespondiert.Das Verfahren umfasst die Schritte des Zusammenstellens und Gruppierens von mindestens drei Artikeln (12) in einer Diagonalanordnung (18) der sich an ihren Mantelflächen berührenden Artikel (12), des Überstreifens des die mindestens drei Artikel (12) der gruppierten Diagonalanordnung (18) lose oder annähernd spannungsfrei umfangenden Umreifungsbandes (26) und des Überführens der in Diagonalanordnung (18) befindlichen Artikel (12) mitsamt dem die Artikel (12) in horizontaler Verlaufsrichtung umfangenden Umreifungsband (26) in eine Rechteckanordnung, wodurch das Umreifungsband (26) gedehnt und dem geschlossenen Umreifungsband (26) eine definierte Bandspannung aufgeprägt wird.Mit der Erfindung sind auch solchermaßen hergestellte Umreifungsgebinde offenbart.
