[origin: WO2020249156A1] The invention relates to an apparatus (1) for the defined detachment of the backbone (21) of half an animal carcass (20), transported on a conveying device (18), along a cutting line (23) comprising a cutting unit (2) with at least one machine-driven circular knife (3.1, 3.2), comprising a suspension unit (4), which is held on a supporting system (17) and by means of which the cutting unit (2) is suspended over the conveying device (18), with an upper frame (5.1), fixed on the supporting system (17), and with a lower frame (5.2), fixed on the cutting unit (2), wherein the frames (5.1, 5.2) are connected to one another by way of a supporting arm (6), which is pivotable at least with respect to the upper frame (5.1) by way of a first articulating bearing (8.1) with a first articulating pin (9.1), and at least one guiding strut (7.1, 7.2) mounted pivotably at the ends with respect to the frames (5.1, 5.2), further comprising a guide unit (11), which is held on the lower frame (5.2) as part of the cutting unit (2) and has two guiding elements (12.1, 12.2) lying opposite one another, which are widened towards an entry side (19) facing the half an animal carcass (20), are held in front of the circular knife (3.1, 3.2) and are used for guiding the apparatus (1) on the backbone (21) during detachment, wherein, during detachment, the circular knife (3.1, 3.2) is kept along the cutting line (23) by a mass body (10) with a mass-body centre of gravity (S) being placed on the supporting arm (6), on a side opposite from the cutting unit (2) with respect to the first articulating pin (9.1) of the first articulating bearing (8.1), in such a way that a first torque (M1), acting at the first articulating pin (9.1) because of a weight (G) of the cutting unit (2), is opposed by a second torque (M2), acting on the first articulating pin (9.1) because of a compensating weight (A) of the mass body (10), wherein the second torque (M2) is greater than 30% and less than 100% of the first torque (M1).
