The slide-in unit comprises a short circuit switch 8a connected to second main connectors 9a, an auxiliary power system 10 for powering a control unit 11a controlling the short circuit switch and for powering at least one sensor 13a, 13b, such as an arc sensor or current sensor, connectable to the control unit. An electrical connection to the auxiliary power system is established at a first slide-in position B of the slide-in unit, and an electrical connection between the first and second main connectors is established at a second slide-in position C of the slide-in unit, the second position being reached after the first position during insertion of the slide-in unit into the compartment.
