[origin: WO2021013475A1] A computer-implemented method for generating non-semantic reference data for determining the position of a motor vehicle (6) involves a set of raw data points (7) being provided that models a stipulated surrounding area (11). A stipulated descriptor characterizing a property of the surrounding area (11) is determined for each of the raw data points (7). At least one point cluster (9a, 9b, 9c, 9d, 9e, 9f) is generated by grouping the raw data points (7) on the basis of their descriptors. An identification number relating to an information gain for determining the position of the motor vehicle (6) is assigned to a first point cluster on the basis of the descriptors of the raw data points (7). The identification number is taken as a basis for storing feature information of the first point cluster on a memory unit (10) as non-semantic reference data for determining the position.
