The process for the strapping of packages, comprises the phases of:- supplying a strap (4) having at least one first free end (5);- wrapping the strap (4) around a package (P);- tensioning the strap (4) around said package (P);- cutting the strap (4) to obtain a second free end (13);- closing the strap (4) to form a closed loop;where the strap (4) is made of a metal material, and where the closing comprises at least one phase of bending the extremal portions (15,16) of the strap (4) one upon the other comprising the free ends (5,13).
