[origin: WO2021078435A1] The invention relates to a stapling device (10) for stapling together sheet material by means of staples (12) which each have two staple legs (14) and one staple bar (16) which connects the staple legs (14) to each other and runs transversely to them. The stapling device has: an anvil limb (26), which has a support plate (38) for supporting the sheet material and a cutting block (40) with two cutting edges (42) for cutting off excess end portions of the staple legs (14); a staple magazine (32), which is mounted pivotably relative to the anvil limb (26) and receives the staples (12) in a row with their staple legs (16) being oriented parallel to one another and bearing against one another; and a stapling unit (30), which has a driver (36) for pushing forward individual staples (12) via the free ends of their staple legs (14) through the sheet material, a lower part (18), on which the anvil limb (26) is supported so as to be movable towards the lower part against a restoring force, and two two-armed bending levers (50), which are mounted on the anvil limb so as to each be pivotable about a separate pivot axis (52) and which each have a first lever arm (54) having a bending face (56) for bending over the staple legs (14) and a second lever arm (58), the second lever arms (58) being pivoted about the pivot axes (52) by being acted on by the lower part (18) as the anvil limb (26) approaches the lower part (18), and the bending faces (56) bending the staple legs (14) over towards one another and cutting off any excess end portions by pressing against the cutting edges (42). In accordance with the invention, the pivot axes (52) run substantially perpendicularly to the staple legs (16) of the staples (12) received in the staple magazine (32), and that the second lever arms (58) have end portions (66) which start at the free ends (64) of the lever arms and which are arranged offset in relation to one another in the axial direction of the pivot axes (52) such that said end portions move past one another as the anvil limb (26) approaches the lower part (18).
