L'invention concerne un appareil portatif pour le marquage d'une surface, comportant un boîtier (2) présentant une face avant (6) présentant une ouverture rectangulaire (6A) pour le passage d'un organe de marquage, la face avant (6) du boîtier étant pourvue d'un cadre de rigidification (15) entourant l'ouverture de passage (6A), ce cadre de rigidification (15) étant pourvu d'un système d'indexation (18) adapté pour coopérer avec un système d'indexation complémentaire (19) équipant chacun des outillages d'une série d'outillages amovibles (20A, 20B, ...) de positionnement de l'appareil sur la surface à marquer, chaque outillage amovible (20A, 20B, ...) de la série et le cadre de rigidification (15) comportant au moins l'un des éléments d'un système de fixation magnétique à deux éléments à savoir aimant (21A) et matériau ferromagnétique (21B).
