A domain name system service discovery (DNS-SD) compliant request (1) according to a network service type (11) is transmitted by an Internet of things network subscriber (100, 210, 220, 230) to a network (300) having at least one host that provides network services. At least one domain name system service discovery (DNS-SD) compliant response (2, 3) to the request (1) is received from one of the hosts (210 - 230). The response (2, 3) comprises a text field having a network service identifier (12). A connection request (4) is transmitted by the Internet of things network subscriber (100) to the particular host (210 - 230) with which the network service identifier (12) is associated and which provides the desired network service.
