[origin: WO2021084343A1] This disclosure relates to uplink covariance estimation for single user multiple input multiple output (SU-MIMO) precoding in wireless cellular systems. In one embodiment, a method is implemented in a network node configured to communicate with a wireless device. An uplink transmit covariance matrix is estimated from available samples of an uplink channel matrix in which the estimation is based at least in part on uplink demodulation reference signals (DMRS) inserted in data symbols transmitted by the wireless device. The estimation is further based at least in part on a selected uplink precoder matrix.
