Um den aufwendigen Lackierungsprozess von großen dreidimensional geformten Bauteilen (10), vorzugsweise Luftfahrzeugbauteilen zu verbessern, wird vorgeschlagen den Maskierschritt (S14) zu automatisieren. Dies kann erreicht werden, indem ein Maskiermittel (16) im Tintenstrahlverfahren auf das Bauteil (10) aufgedruckt wird, wobei das Maskiermittel (16) einen Maskierfilm (18) ausbildet. Der Maskierfilm (18) maskiert den gewünschten Oberflächenbereich (24) und kann nach dem Ende der Lackierung abgezogen werden.
