[origin: WO2021099562A1] The invention relates to a method for catching an elevator system (100) and to a catching device (1) for an elevator system comprising a travelling body (21) which is arranged so as to be displaceable along a rail (6). The catching device comprises a first brake element (2A), a second brake element (2B), a first guide element (4A), a second guide element (4B), and an actuator element (11). The first brake element (2A) and the second brake element (2B) can be brought into contact with a rail (6) in order to perform a braking process. A first linear bearing is formed between the first brake element (2A) and the first guide element (4A). A second linear bearing is formed between the second brake element (2B) and the second guide element (4B). Both guide elements (4A, 4B) can each be moved between a rest position and an initial brake position, wherein the actuator element (11) moves the two guide elements (4A, 4B) from the rest position into the initial brake position.
