[origin: WO2022018180A1] The invention relates to a filter material for producing a segment for a smoking product, wherein the filter material comprises a hydro-entangled nonwoven material, and the nonwoven material comprises fibres, wherein the fibres are selected from the group consisting of cellulose fibres, fibres made of regenerated cellulose and mixtures thereof, and these fibres are contained together in the nonwoven material in a quantity of at least 50% and max. 100% of the mass of the hydro-entangled nonwoven material, and wherein the nonwoven material is in the form of a web, has a longitudinal direction in the running direction of the web, an orthogonal transverse direction lying in the web plane and a thickness direction that is orthogonal to the longitudinal direction and the transverse direction. The nonwoven material is formed such that, in the plane extending in the transverse direction and thickness direction, it has a wave structure with a wave height of at least 50 µm and max. 1000 µm, and a wavelength of at least 150 µm and max. 5000 µm.
