[origin: WO2021116007A1] The invention relates to an operating device (110) for a vehicle, comprising a first operating element (220) for allowing the user to choose one of a number of main functions of the vehicle, the first operating element (220) being mounted rotatably about a rotation axis (212), the first operating element (220) having at least one predefined stable rotary position. The operating device (110) also comprises a second operating element (230) for allowing the user to set sub-functions of the main function selected by means of the first operating element (220), the second operating element (230) being mounted rotatably about the rotation axis (212). The operating device (110) also comprises an actuator means (240) comprising a magnetorheological medium (242), which is coupled to the second operating element (230) and is designed to exert onto the second operating element (230) a fixing force which is dependent on a viscosity of the magnetorheological medium (242). The actuator device (240) is designed to set the viscosity of the magnetorheological medium (242) depending on the main function selected by means of the first operating element (220) and depending on a rotary position of the second operating element (230).
