[origin: WO2021089444A1] The invention relates to a single-screw extruder for conveying and plasticizing meltable material, in particular a thermoplastic, in which single-screw extruder a screw (2) is rotatably held in a heated cylinder (1), wherein the screw (2) has a core and a helical main ridge (4) which has a distance (S1) from the inner wall (9) of the cylinder (1) and, together with the cylinder (1) and the core of the screw (2), forms a screw channel, wherein the screw (2) comprises, in accordance with the changing aggregate state of the meltable material, a solids conveying zone (I), a transition zone (II), a melting zone (III) and a melt conveying zone (IV), and the distance (S1) of the main ridge (4) from the inner wall (10) of the cylinder (1) in the region of the transition and melting zones (II, III) is selected in such a way that melt is prevented from running over the main ridge (4). According to the invention, the region of the transition and melting zones (II, III) has at least two successive, non-overlapping barrier portions (X, Y); there is an overflow ridge (5, 6) in the course of each of the barrier portions (X, Y), which overflow ridge starts at the active flank (11) of the main ridge (4), which active flank is defined by the screw rotation, and ends at the passive flank (12) of the main ridge (4), as a result of which at least three separate channels (7, 8, 9) are formed, which are interconnected merely by the gap formed as a result of the distance (S2) of the overflow ridge (5, 6) from the inner wall (10) of the cylinder (1); the distances (S2) of the overflow ridges (5, 6) from the inner wall (10) of the cylinder (1) in each barrier portion (X, Y) are greater than the distance (S1) of the main ridge (4) in order to enable material transfer of solids and/or of melt; and at least parts of the inner wall (10) of the cylinder (1) are provided, at least in the region of the first barrier portion (X), with at least one cylinder groove (15) extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the screw (2), or a cylinder groove (15) extending in a helical manner.
