[origin: WO2021142501A1] The invention relates to a key (2) for a cylinder lock (1), comprising at least one key grip (3) and a key shank (4), wherein a coding (6) which is formed from a plurality of coding elements (7) in the form of protrusions (7a) and depressions (7b) is arranged on the key shank (4), at least on a lateral surface (5) of the key shank (4). The coding elements (7) are in the form of parallel corrugations (8) formed in the longitudinal direction of the key shank (4) over at least a portion of a length (9) of the key shank (4), wherein a plurality of coding elements (7) are arranged adjacent to one another. Furthermore, at every sensing position, an 8-bit coding (6) is arranged on the lateral surface (5) of the key shank (4), and at least two sensing positions (10), in particular 6 to 12 sensing positions (10), are arranged for a key (2).
