A method of producing a data carrier (1) comprising the steps of i) providing one or more layers (2, 2a,), ii) providing at least one coating (3, 3a), preferably a varnish, and iii) generating a carrier body (4) comprising the one or more layers (2, 2a, ...) and the coating (3, 3a). The coating (3, 3a) is dried in a drying step and cured in a curing step, wherein, in terms of time, the drying step occurs before the curing step.
