Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2591142A] A suspension having a standard coilover strut 205 connected in series to an active pneumatic actuator, which may be a double-acting pneumatic cylinder 212 or an air bellow (Fig 8a, 812). The strut 205 may connect in series to the actuator via a centrally pivoted rocker arm 208 such that if the actuator extends in length, the strut 205 is compressed, reducing the ride-height and/or compensating roll of the vehicle body. The cylinder 212 may comprise a piston (Fig 4, 403) and two valve-regulated inlets (Fig 4, 406, 408) on either side of the piston 403. In case of the air bellow 812, there may be a single valve-regulated inlet. The valves may be electrically or pneumatically controlled by the ECU according to sensors for detecting ride-height, steering wheel angle, yaw rate or roll angle. The strut 205 may be of standard design, comprising a coil spring and a damper.
