By means of the pair of operative elements, a force (7) can be exerted on the sinker (1) so as to act downward in the sinker height direction (H). During knitting, this force (7) can act counter to loop formation forces that act on loop formation means (3) of the sinker (1), and in this way prevent unevenness - for example slurgalling - in the knitted fabric produced.
