[origin: EP4098152A1] A spring mattress comprises a plurality of interconnected coil springs (1) enclosed in casings (2), the springs (1) having a first and a second end, wherein for at least one of the springs (1), casing (2) portions arranged at the first and second ends of the spring (1) are connected to each other through the spring (1) by a joint. The joined casing (2) portions comprise openings (9) through the spring (1). Pieces of foam material (20) are arranged in the openings (9), so that a first portion (20a) of each piece of foam material (20) extends towards the first end of the spring (1) and a second portion (20b) of each piece of foam material (20) extends towards the second end of the spring (1). An apparatus and method for manufacturing such a mattress are also disclosed.
