[origin: WO2021156443A1] The invention relates to a cell culture device for a three-dimensional cell culture comprising one or more cell culture units, characterised in that a cell culture unit comprises: i. at least one matrix holder having a central opening for receiving a matrix; ii. a carrier that is fixedly or reversibly connected to the at least one matrix holder; and iii. a strip of wells, consisting of a vessel with at least one recess, that can encompass at least one or more matrix holders up to the upper end of the central opening, wherein the matrix holder is oriented vertically.
