The hob device (1) comprises a placement surface (2) for placing items of cookware (100) and two induction devices (3) for heating the item of cookware (100) placed on the placement surface (2). The item of cookware (100) is intended and designed to be heated by means of an induction device (3). The induction devices (3) of the hob device (1) are each assigned a transmitting device (4), and the item of cookware (100) is assigned a receiving device (101), wherein the transmitting devices (4) each at times transmit an electromagnetic signal (13) which is received by the receiving device (101) of the item of cookware (100) when the item of cookware (100) is heated by the corresponding induction device (3). A sequence of electromagnetic signals (13) acting as assignment signals (5) encode a signature for a specific induction device (3) so that it is possible to assign the item of cookware (100) to an induction device (3). Furthermore, a further electromagnetic signal (13) is emitted as an information signal (14) at a temporally predefined interval (15) from one of the assignment signals (5), wherein the interval between the information signal (14) and the assignment signal (5) encodes a specific property.
