The pressure relief dam is lower than the main dam and forms a pressure relief lake with the main dam. Through the effect of hydrostatic pressure in the pressure relief lake on the main dam, the high water head pressure on the lake side in the main dam is partially offset, so that the stress load of the main dam is reduced, and the pressure relief effect is achieved. The method can be used for an existing dam needing to be repaired and can also be used for newly building a high-water-head dam.

In einem Verfahren zur Entlastung einer Hauptstaumauer (1) einer Staubauwerksanordnung (13), wobei die Staubauwerksanordnung (13) eine Hauptstaumauer (1) zum Aufstauen eines Stausees umfasst, wird flussabwärts zur Hauptstaumauer (1) eine Entlastungsmauer (5) gebaut, welche eine niedrigere Höhe als die Hauptstaumauer (1) aufweist, wobei zwischen der Hauptstaumauer (1) und der Entlastungsmauer (5) ein Entlastungssee (6) derart gebildet wird, dass resultierende hydrostatische Druckkräfte auf die Hauptstaumauer (1) reduziert werden.
