[origin: WO2021180477A1] A method (S1-S6) is used to set desired browning of food (G) to be cooked, and includes the following steps: recording (S2) an image (P) from a cooking chamber of a domestic cooking appliance (1) containing the food (G) to be cooked; displaying (S3) the image on a screen (S); defining (S4, S5) a user-selectable image measurement region (C; CUR) in the displayed image (P); and defining (S6) desired browning for the selected image measurement region (C; CUR). An apparatus (1, SP, DB) for carrying out the method comprises: a domestic cooking appliance (1) with a cooking chamber (2), at least one camera (5) directed into the cooking chamber (2), at least one screen (S, 7, 9) on which it is possible to display images (P) recorded by the at least one camera (5), at least one user interface (7, 9) for defining the user-selectable image measurement region in the displayed image and for defining the desired browning, and a data processing device (6) for carrying out the cooking process taking account of the desired browning. The invention is particularly advantageously applicable to ovens.
