[origin: WO2021205009A1] The invention relates to a device (1) for generating an inhalable aerosol, comprising: a receiving region (2) for a product (3) which generates an aerosol on heating; at least one sensor (11, 12, 19) for measuring a physical characteristic of the product as sensor data; and a control unit (13) for controlling the device (1) and/or for evaluating the sensor data. According to the invention, the at least one sensor (11) is an electrostatic sensor (11), by means of which an electrostatic charge of the product (3) can be measured, and the control unit (13) is designed to determine the fill level of the product (3) with the aid of at least the sensor data of the electrostatic sensor (11) and/or to identify the product (3). The invention also relates to a method for operating a device (1) for generating an inhalable aerosol.
