[origin: CA3173211A1] Provision is made for a preceding propulsion unit (1) for a watercraft to be designed as a wind engagement element that is connected to the watercraft via a tension rope (11). Provision is made here for the wind engagement element to be formed by a float body (3) which, on the top side thereof, has multiple adjustable surface elements (5), which are associated in parallel, as sail-like wind engagement surfaces, possibly additionally with a frame, and, on the bottom side, in the water, has multiple adjustable elements (6), which are associated in parallel, as fins. Here, in order to be connected to the tension rope (11), the surface elements (5), or the frame which is formed, and the float body (3) are connected by means of tension elements as ropes, and/or support means as linkages (7) in the form of a guy rope arrangement, via a linkage point (8) which is formed behind the float body (3). The wind engagement surfaces and the fins each have actuating drives which are individually adjustable by means of an associated control unit.
