[origin: WO2021197886A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a washing machine comprising an outer tub for receiving a washing liquid, a rib-free drum which is rotatably mounted in the outer tub for receiving laundry, a motor for driving the drum, and a regulating device. The method has a step of detecting a sliding and/or rolling of the laundry, including the following processes during a rotation of the drum: - sampling a variable, which relates to the torque of the motor or the rotational speed of the drum, over a specified period of time; and - ascertaining whether the laundry is sliding and/or rolling in the drum using the variable sampled over the period of time. The invention additionally relates to a corresponding washing machine.
