[origin: CA3175697A1] The invention relates to an extracorporeal blood treatment device which has a blood treatment unit 1 which is divided by a semipermeable membrane 2 into a first compartment 3, which is part of a liquid system II, and a second compartment 4, which is part of an extracorporeal blood circuit I. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for operating a blood treatment device of this kind. The blood treatment device according to the invention has a pressure-based control device 32 which cooperates with the control unit for a valve device 21 and is designed in such a way that a liquid connection between an upstream portion 20A and a downstream portion 20B of a flow path 20 can be established for a particular operating mode only if the pressure-based control device 32 detects an operating state in which it is ensured that, for a particular operating mode, liquid flows in the flow path 20 in the direction of a flow path 10 leading to an outlet 11. It is thus ensured that the liquid in question can flow only into the flow path 10 that leads to the outlet 11, but cannot pass into another flow path 8 in which fresh treatment liquid is located.
