[origin: WO2021254767A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a passenger transport system (1) and to a passenger transport system which is adapted for carrying out said method. The passenger transport system comprises a controller (11) for controlling functionalities of the passenger transport system, and a safety device (17) for checking a safety-relevant function of the passenger transport system. The safety device can be configured into a configured state by storing a configuration parameter (43), in order to control the safety-relevant function according to particular specifications. The method comprises: - receiving a configuration parameter (41) by the controller; - transmitting the configuration parameter to the safety device; - storing a configured parameter (43) in the safety device based on the received configuration parameter; - transmitting configured data (47) from the safety device to the controller, the configured data encoding a graphic information (49), wherein the graphic information is displayed on a display (51) connected to the controller, and wherein the graphic information unambiguously reproduces the configured parameter in a visual machine-readable manner; - reading the graphic information by means of an optical reading sensor (53) of a mobile, processor-controlled data processing apparatus (21); and - comparing the configured parameter reproduced by the read graphic information with a target configuration parameter (59). The controller controls the functionalities of the passenger transport system depending on whether a sufficient match between the configured parameter and the target configuration parameter was determined.
