[origin: WO2021255214A1] The embodiments of the invention provide a method for characterising fires occurring in a geographic area (110) covered by an imaging device (101), the imaging device being mobile, geolocated in a global reference frame (210) and providing multimodal stereoscopic images, the method being characterised in that it comprises the following steps: detecting fire pixels; generating a first three-dimensional (3D) point cloud; transforming the first cloud into a second cloud geolocated in the global reference frame (210); estimating, from the second 3D point cloud, geometric data of a local plane (230) on which the fire (111) occurs; transposing the second cloud into a local measurement reference frame (250) in order to provide a third 3D point cloud; estimating, from the third 3D point cloud, a first plurality of local geometric characteristics of the fire.
