[origin: WO2022112025A1] In a method for carrying out an automatic can change process at a spinning station (2) of a spinning machine (1) by means of a movable can changer (14) with a can gripper (15), a fibre tape (4) is delivered to the spinning station (2) from a sliver can (3) positioned beneath the spinning station, with a residual tape length of the fibre tape (4) being predefined. When the predefined residual tape length is reached, the fibre tape (4) is severed during running production of the spinning station (2). During this process, the fibre tape (4) is clamped to the sliver can (3) by a fixed clamp (18) of the can changer (14), in particular of the can gripper (15). The sliver can (3) with the clamped fibre tape (4) is removed from the spinning station (2) by the can changer (14) and the fibre tape (4) is thus severed. Alternatively, the fibre tape (4) is additionally clamped by a movable clamp (10) and the fibre tape (4) severed by a movement of the movable clamp (10). A corresponding spinning machine (1) with a plurality of adjacently arranged spinning stations (2) has a control unit (16) for carrying out the method. A movable can changer (14) with a can gripper (15) has at least one fixed clamp (18) for clamping a fibre tape (4) to the sliver can (3).
