[origin: WO2022053743A1] A system for managing dental instruments (106-117) comprises readers (118-120) for receiving reader data from instrument identifiers of the dental instruments and a data processing system (101) comprising one or more processors and memory and being communicatively connected to the readers. The data processing system is configured to maintain a database containing status information related to the dental instruments and to update the database based on the reader data received from the readers. The status information is indicative of at least one of the following for the dental instruments: i) usability of the dental instrument for a predetermined therapeutic operation, ii) instrument-specific data accessible by using the reader data as a pointer to the instrument specific data, and iii) completeness of an instrument set to which the dental instrument belongs. Thus, the system can be adapted to carry out various monitoring and management tasks related to the dental instruments.
