An apparatus (100) for producing aerosol-generating material rod segments (126), the apparatus (100) comprising:a first cutter (106) arranged to cut a sheet of aerosol-generating material (104) longitudinally to produce a plurality of aerosol-generating material strands (112); a gatherer (114) arranged to gather the strands (112) together to form an aerosol-generating material rod (120) in which each of the plurality of aerosol-generating material strands (112) is substantially non-coiled; and a second cutter (124) arranged to cut the aerosol-generating material rod (120) into segments (126) to produce said aerosol-generating material rod segments (126).
