Status change information (ZA) concerning a change in the physical status of a goods carrier (21a) and/or concerning a change in the status of a control program for the goods carrier (21a) is provided by an associated digital twin of the goods carrier (21a) and for digital twins of other goods carriers (21b, 21c). The invention further relates to a storage and picking system (1) for carrying out the method.
