[origin: WO2022079035A2] The invention relates to a retaining system for securing a flat element, which is preferably designed as a covering unit, and to a covering system, wherein: an edge unit and a fastening unit are provided; the edge unit has a clamping portion in which the flat element can be introduced; the clamping portion has at least a first clamping element and a second clamping element; the first and the second clamping elements are fixedly connected to the clamping portion and can be brought to bear against the flat element such that they exert a force onto the flat element acting transversely to a flat plane such that the flat element is secured on the clamping portion at least by frictional engagement; the edge unit has a fastening portion at which the fastening unit can be brought into interlocking engagement; the fastening unit can be secured on a building in order to prevent the edge unit being moved relative to the building.
